File Retrieval Access (For user who need bulk data) Internet Service (B)

Here's how it works……..

If you are using our Trader's Access Software - you must do the following:

1) Run the software and create a list (File\Create List)

2) Add the specific symbols you want to follow in the program (Edit\Add Symbols) - the Trader's Access Software will only import data for the specific symbols in the Trader's Access software. Also, the start date for the symbol(s) is very important - the program will not import data prior to the start date specified for the symbol. To modify the start date - highlight the symbol(s) and go to Edit\Change\Start Exp Dates.

3) After downloading the files (a) If they are historical files (yearly, 6-month, monthy, or individual historical) - you must highlight the symbols in the list(s) that you want data brought into the program. (b) If the files you downloaded from the internet are individual daily files (by date, not bulk historical), you do not need to highlight any symbols - data will be imported into the program for all symbols in all of your lists for that date (You do not have to unzip the files prior to importing the data in to the Trader's Access Software).

If you are not using our Trader's Access Software.

1) Download the files you want and do anything you want with them (unzip them or not).

Here is what you download......

Use your browser to access our web site, "http://www.tbsp.com". Then, click on Internet (B) Members Only (Retrieve Quotes). Enter your Password, issued to you by T.B.S.P., Inc., in the User Name and Password field (We use the password for both). You have now gained access to the data files. If you want to FTP to our site - click here for the directory structure.

Note: The most important thing is: Remember where you saved the files that you download from the internet.

The data files are zipped files of two types: (click on the links below for sample data files)

Historical data: The Historical data files consist of data for a given market(s) for a specific period of time (i.e. a mutual funds historical data file will contain all mutual funds traded for a specific period of time).

The monthly web page look like this (there will be a listing for all types (stocks, futrues, funds, canandian stocks, indexes):

The 6-month web page looks like this:

The Yearly web page looks like this:

The historical files are broken down as follows:

Stocks are in SHIST.ZIP

Canadian Stocks are in CHIST.ZIP

Futures are in FHIST.ZIP

Mutual Funds are in MHIST.ZIP

Indexes are in IHIST.ZIP

Futures Options are in OHIST.ZIP (only available for yearly files)

These names are the same regardless of the year or month. We have monthly files, 6 month files, and yearly files.

Note: You can rename these files as you download them.

If you want to import the data included in the historical files into the Trader's Access program follow these instructions.

  • 1) Download the file that contains the data that you want to import into the Trader's Access program
  • 2) Make sure you have added the symbols that you want into the Trader's Access Program. (Note: make sure the symbol's start date is before the first date in the downloaded data file - otherwise - nothing will come in).
  • 3) Highlight the symbols that you want historical data imported into the program.
  • 4) Go to Import (Internet)\Historical\Bulk
  • 5) A Directory/file dialog box will appear. Click on the historical data file that you just downloaded and then click on OK.
  • The program will import the data and apply the appropriate data to the appropriatly highlighted symbol(s).

    Repeat this sequence for each data file you download.

    Daily Data: The Daily data files consist of all data for a given market(s) for that specific day only.

    Here is waht a typical daily web page looks like:

    Example of file names are:

    s090199.zip = all stocks, indexes, canadian stocks traded on 09/01/99

    f090199.zip = all futures, and futures optioins traded on 09/01/99

    m090199.zip=all mutual funds traded on 09/01/99

    o090199.zip=all index and stock options traded on 09/01/99

    a090199.zip=all stocks,indexes,canadian,futures,futures options, index and stock options traded on 09/01/99

    Note: Do not rename these files as you download them.

    After downloading the appropriate file from our web site - follow these instructions to import the data into the Trader's Access program.

  • 1) Go to Import (Internet)\Daily (you do not have to highlight the symbols - daily importing does all symbolsin all lists)
  • 2) A Directory/file dialog box will appear. Click on the daily data file that you just downloaded and then click on OK. - the program will import the data and apply the appropriate data to the appropriate symbol(s).
  • Shortcut to create symbols list containing all symbols from market(s):

    1. Open one of the daily files with a spreadsheet program;
    2. Highlight the symbol column, and copy it to a separate text file (save this file);
    3. Remove the identifier symbol before importing the list if the symbol type is other than stock (i.e. futures are identified with a # before the symbol). You can use the dos utility we've created, Inetstrp.exe, or the "find and replace" function of your word processor or spreadsheet to strip the symbols;
    4. Then use the file/import ascii function to import this file;
    5. Once you have imported the file it may be necessary to edit the list in order to import the data, due to the fact, that all symbols on the imported list are assumed to be stocks. So if your list contains symbols that are not stocks, you must change the Symbol Type. To do this, highlight the symbol(s) and go to Edit:Change, select the applicable Symbol Type (i.e. futures if they are futures symbols, etc.). Hint: You may only edit 1000 symbols at a time. So, if your list contains more than 1000 symbols, press and hold the shift key and drag over 1000 symbols with your mouse to edit them. It is important to note, that if the symbol type is not designated correctly, you will not be able to import data for these symbols.

    If you are going to unzip the files yourself and use the data in a program other than Trader's Access, you will need to know the following:

    In front of each symbol is an identifier:
    & Stocks
    $ Indices
    # Futures
    ! Mutual Funds
    ~ Market Statistics
    * Stock and Index Options
    + Futures Options
    / Canadian Stocks

    File layout:

    Each file is in an ASCII format as follows: Symbol,Date,Open,High,Low,Close,Volume,OpenInterest
    The Daily Data files for Options with Bid and Ask are formatted as follows: Symbol,Date,Open,High,Low,Close,Volume,OpenInterest.Bid,Ask (starting on 08/07/2000 this file will also contain Strike Price, Month, Call or Put)

    Examples:

    &IBM,10/03/96,103.25,105.875,101.50,104.25,1456789,0

    #SP6Z,10/03/96,700.5,706.35,697.35,705.85,59311,178410
