Q: What do I do when I get an error 1030?

A: When you get a 1030 error message, close all programs and run scandisk and fix any errors that you may find.

Q: How do I set up Trader's Access to dial the internet for me?

A: 1) Go to My Computer on your desktop and double click on it to open the folder
2) In my Computer, you will see Dial -Up Networking - double click on it to run the program
3) In Dial-Up Networking you will see some icons that represent your internet connection. This name of the internet conection is what you will use in the Settings\Communications\Internet Service tab in the program.
4) Run the Trader's Access program and click on Settings\Communications\Internet Service tab. Click on "I want Trader's Access to log me on to the internet".
5) At this point three input fields will appear. In the first one, enter in the name of your internet connection that you found in Dial-Up Networking. Next, enter your ISP User Name and lastly, the ISP Password. Click on Accept.

Q: What do I do when I get an error 102?

A: This means that you are most likely using Netscape's NetZip program. Our software is not compatable with NetZip. Please turn off NetZip.

Q: Why can't I get data for the symbols on my list?

A: There could be a number of reasons you cannot get data for the symbols on your list;

  • 1. If the symbol(s) are in red, it means an expiration date has been assigned to them and the server will no longer give data for these symbols (Note: the server will automatically turn a symbol to red if it does not find data for ten days straight, which could mean the symbol is no longer being traded, has changed it's symbol, or that a contract has expired). To remove expiration date, click Edit : Select All, all symbols on list should now be highlighted, then click Edit : Change : Starting and Expiration Dates. Under expiration dates (on right side of window), select Clear and Accept.
  • 2. Check the time and date on your PC and make sure they are correct. Most data is available at 3:15 pm pacific time for 800 members and 4:15 pm pacific time for internet members.
  • 3. Check that the "Symbol Type" correctly identifies the symbol that you have added (ie Microsoft symbol MSFT must be identified as a Stock. If it is marked as a Mutual Fund, you will not get data). To correct if this is the problem, highlight symbol, and click Edit : Change : Symbol Type : Change to and click on the correct symbol type and click OK.
  • 4. Check the list and make sure that the box at the top is not marked "Do Not Update". If the Do Not Update box has been marked you will not be able to download quotes for this list.

Q: Is the data adjusted for stock splits?

A: 800 and Internet (A) data is adjusted for splits and will automatically correct your data files. Therefore, you can verify which stock data was adjusted by clicking View : Rec /News/View : Splits. If you want to split the data yourself, highlight the symbol, click on View : Data Single and highlight the day before the actual split and go to Edit : Splits : Split, enter the ratio, and click split.

You can also delete and redownload the adjusted data to correct for a split, by highlighting the symbol and then go to Edit : Delete : Data Only and select a date to delete data from (should be the first data date on your list). This will delete all the data for the highlighted symbol. Then, when you log onto the server you will download the adjusted data for the split. The internet (B) data is not adjusted, but you can get a list of splits that were adjusted by selecting the split file under the download page of the website (located above the daily file selections) and highlight the symbol, click on View : Data Single and highlight the day before the actual split and go to Edit : Splits : Split, enter the ratio, and click split..

To have the program autoamtically split your data, you must have the feature turned in with in the program. Go to Settings:Communications:Retrieval Tab. Turn on Automatic splits. If you only download data every few days and want the autoamtic splits, you will have to change the nunber of days the program will try to do a split. The program checks the spltis.txt file each time you download to see if there is a recent split to be done with in the program. Thus you may need to change the nubmer of days back to check with in the file.

Q: What if I find a bad data point?

A: For 800 and intenet (A) members, the data can be adjusted in our server. You can email sales, sales@tbsp.com, with the symbol and date of bad data point. It will be verified and corrected within 48 hours.  You can highlight the symbol and click on Edit : Delete : Data Only and select the date of the bad data point. The data will be deleted from the selected date to current date and will be redownloaded with the corrected data the next time you log on. You can also manually change the data by highlighting the symbol, then go to View : Data Single and highlight the date with the bad data point and right click the mouse. Enter the correct data and click enter.

For Internet (B) members, data correction is not supported but you can correct the date yourself (see instructions for manually changing data below) from within the Trader's Access software.

Q: How do I import data from the CD-ROM?

A: Make sure your lists are open and the symbols you want to import data for are highlighted (to import data for all symbols click Edit : Select All). Note: The start date on your list must be before the date you are trying to import from the CD-ROM. To change the start date go to Edit: Change : Starting and Expiration date and under Start date click Change to:, a calendar will appear, select a date, and click ok. The start date on your list should now reflect the applicable date. To import the data, go to File : Import CD-ROM (make sure CD-ROM is inserted in drive) and under drives click the CD-ROM drive. You should now see under Files on right side of window - TAWCDROM. Highlight TAWCDROM and click OK. You should now see the data importing to your lists (bottom left of TAW program).

Q: I am having problems with my data files?

A: Trader's Access saves your data to MS Access files with a .ptf extension. If you are having problems exclusive to the data files try running File : Rebuild Lists from within the Trader's Access software (Note: all lists must be closed before running rebuild). If this does not correct the problem, try running scandisk and fix any errors and then running Rebuild List from within the Trader's Access software.

Q: Why can't I import an internet data file?

A: There could be a number of reasons why you cannot get data to import into Trader's Access from the internet;

  • 1. The start date on your list is not before the day's/historical data file you are trying to import. To change the start date, highlight symbol(s) on list and go to Edit : Change : Starting and Expiration Dates and under Starting date click on change to, and select a date (before the date of the file being imported) and click on ok. Your list should now show the applicable start date.
  • 2. The file downloaded was corrupted. Delete the file and redownload it.
  • 3. Not enough memory to unzip the file. The file downloaded is saved to the harddrive and then TAW copies the file to the TAW directory and tries to unzip it. If you do not have enough memory the file cannot be opened by TAW.
  • 4. If you are downloading more than one historical file, be aware that all historical files have the same name hist.zip with a market identifier in front (s for stocks, f for futures, i for indices, m for mutual funds, and o for options) (ie: a stock historical file is named shist.zip). You must rename the files before downloading them to your hardrive so that you can identify them when importing into the TAW software.

Q: My counter did not reset on the first of the month?

A: This can happen within your software, but know that the server does not have this problem and will accurately reflect the number of quotes you're retrieved even if your counter may not. To correct the counter, click on Communications : Account Info and click on clear. You can then type the number of quotes you have downloaded into the box and accept.

Q: I am having problems exporting my data file(s) to Metastock, why?

A: Metastock files are limited to 255 symbols per list and will lock up if you try to export files with more than the allotted number. You can move symbols from one list to another by creating a new list (File : Create List) and then highlight the symbol and go to Edit : Copy/Move, click Move and select the list you want the symbol moved to and the time period and click ok. Keep the files you are exporting to Metastock to 255 symbols and you will not incur this problem.

Q: I purchased Right Time, but cannot figure out how to get it working?

A: The Right time signals are activated through the server when you log on for quotes, the next business day after you placed your order. To apply the signals to your charts and to view the scan. To automate scan, go to Settings : Automation : Scanning and insert the Right time Normal scan (Highlight Right time Normal in list and click insert. You should now see it on right under selected studies.) and click accept. To automate the signals to be viewed on a chart, highlight symbols on list (Edit : Select All) go to Settings : Defaults and insert Right time Normal (Highlight Right time Normal in list and click insert. You should now see it on right under selected studies.)and click Accept. You have now automated the signals and scan so that every time you download the scan will automatically be produced for viewing and the signals will automatically be placed on the charts.

Q: How do I enter a new symbol to a list if it does not appear in the symbol's guide?

A: If you know that a symbol has begun trading but do not see it on the symbol's guide, you can manually enter the symbol to your list. We try to update the symbol's guide frequently, about ever few months, but the server is updated daily. So just because it is not on the guide does not mean it isn't available through the server. Just click in the download symbol's box and type in the symbol and click Ok. The symbol should now be on your list and you should receive data for it. If you do not, email sales (sales@tbsp.com ro through the program's built in mail system) with the symbol and they will verify that the symbol you are trying to use is correct.

Q:How come i can not connect to your internet (A) service server?

A: Usually the problem is quite easy to overcome: If you have a proxy server or a firewall or a program like Norton's Internet Protection. they need to know what port the server is on. Just tell your protection program that you need to get to port 1433.

Or, our server is down or our T1 line is down or your connection is too slow (the internet (A) service is very dependent on the speed of your connection to the internet).

Q: I have a Macintosh - How do I get quotes from TBSP?

A: There are 2 ways to get quotes from us. 1) You can use our Internet (B) Service. 2) You can install Virtual PC on your Macintosh and run our software from with in Vitrual PC on your Macintosh.

Q: I am using UNIX or Linix - How do I get quotes from TBSP?

A: You can use our Internet (B) Service.

Q: How do I put 2 symbols on a chart?

A: There are 2 wasy to do this. 1) Highlight the 2 symbols on the list and click on View\Chart (Single Window). 2) If you already have a chart up, you can click on a symbol on a list and then copy the symbol to the clipboard and then paste the symbol on to a chart.
